Poet, I am always happy to chat with you. I really have a vague notion of what comprises the feminist smorgasbord, which is why I used that term. I don't know what the movement in general is about these days. I suspect my recollection of strident anti-male rhetoric leads me to doubt I would agree to a lot of objectives. I am the enemy. Seems divisive, blaming, counter-productive, vindictive, etc. On a positive note, male bashing seems to be losing steam, mostly because I think women have gotten bored with it. Too easy. I am going to have to think about my picture of feminism and update it. Poet, right when I was getting ready to have a beer and watch football you go and spoil it! See how feminists are!! gggg.
Feminists probably want stuff like more mandated child care money on the federal level. I imagine the heart of the movement has a lot of pretty practical objectives for which cases could be made. Women are infinitely practical when left in charge, in my experience. There are probably a lot of "big government" spending items women would like to see. On the other hand, abortion is a hallmark issue about which I have reservations, but am not interested in changing law. I just disagree because I think it is not fundamentally about the woman's body. If it were it wouldn't be an issue. That disagreement is useful to keep alive and I also think that I will be vindicated by a more enlightened society. We don't need to beat that poor old tired horse. But strident feminism is not primarily a male/female issue. I bet about as many women as men are against radical feminism (whatever that is) because it is a cultural issue. Many women are not that unhappy with the gender culture, seems to me. You are gonna have to be a little patient for the moment, but if you have something for me to consider while pondering let me know.
