Hal, Thanks for that account. I can empathize with your town's struggle. I can also equate this provider's stance in the residential space to some similar thinking on their part of late in the business sector, as well. In this regard you can consider them an equal opportunity skimper.

The carrier (cable operator in this instance) is being very selective in addressing new fiber builds, even for well-healed where in the past they might have absorbed the initial shock of a buildout with the hope of capitalizing on future business, where now they won't. And where they *do*, one would be well-advised to be ready for a very long wait.

Btw, is there any recourse that the town can exert through leveraging the franchise process? I'm sure that was thought of, and you allude to it to some extent. Were any teeth shown?
