RE:"Could someone tell me why gas is around $1.80 per gallon (and was over $2.00 just a couple weeks ago) at any Shell/Chevron/Exon/BP between San Jose and Marin County?"

A nobile attempt to prop up earnings in an otherwise failing silicon valley economy.

Could someone tell me why gas is around $1.80 per gallon (and was over $2.00 just a couple weeks ago) at any Shell/Chevron/Exon/BP between San Jose and Marin County? Are we getting some sort of bonus environmental/mass transit tax? Higher real estate increasing costs of running a gas station?

My last fillup was at $1.579 in San Jose. Yes, there is a Bay Area Air Quality Board (& District) and it does cost more to retail gasoline here. Yes to your real estate question, too.
