Tony,
re: Maybe that's why AMD lays off everyone they need to in the US and leaves Dresden untouched. Patriotic.

You're talking nonsense. Why should AMD lay off people at it's newest and most advanced fab (which is still ramping up production) instead of some old fabs? Come on, I know you can really do better than that.

Tony
re: lobbying for less hours and longer vacation
I even can recall time when your posts actually made any sense

Tony, Re: Last I heard, they worked 37.5 hours per week, had 6 weeks vacation a year and layoffs were illegal (or something close to impossible).

LOL!! If you still want to be taken serious on this thread, you should really stop here.

Tony, Labor rules in Europe are good for the USA. The worst place is France, from what I hear their work rules are going to make France into a third world country as newtech companies stop locating there.

Euros in general enjoy far more vacation time than we do here and this impacts productivity enormously. They also have much tighter overtime rules. These are all designed to make more jobs. Instead they make fewer jobs as the socialists keep failing to understand a caapitalist economy. No-one will make a job unless they are sure it will last forever, that is why the unemployment rate is far higher in europe than in the USA

I am not sure how they handle whort term workers, like temps? do they even have them? or what about contract workers for a 6 month contract?

Bill

Re: How about the fact that the German labor force has been (successfully) lobbying for less hours

Hmmm. How exactly do they want each hour changed to "lessen" it?

At least they aren't trying to work fewer hours, eh?
