Between those two, they did a lot of damage. The WTC attackers used USA flight training and other facilities. The latest anthrax stuff [which is a fizzer] is also USA-sourced. With only one person having been killed, the threat is negligible. The encore to the spectacular success of the WTC attack had better be good [from Osama's point of view] because if it's a pathetic effort, the USA is going to be on top of everything. Osama's mob, like McVeigh and Kaczynski will turn out to have been nothing more than an immune system stimulant. A kind of human mutant in the body public, like some cancer cells zapped with a monoclonal antibody. I don't believe Osama and supporters have got much else they can do. There isn't going to be an Islamic uprising nor destruction of the West. Too many interests are served by civilization and political stability [nearly everyone's]. I remain hopeful that the worst has been done and the worldwide consequences flowing from the attack are going to be a dramatic improvement over the situation prior to the attacks. The USA is going to be confirmed as the harbinger of civilization, globalization, democracy, freedom, private enterprise, capitalism, the technological revolution, cyberspace. The vicious, superstitious, medievil thugs are going to be pushed back to where they belong = a wacko religious Luddite cult. Ted Kaczynski failed and they will too. If the USA can handle this situation, as seems to be the case so far, with courage, determination, individual rights and law being the bywords [not universal but where it counts - Giuliani, Bush, Powell, Rice, FBI, Courts, etc], then the USA and New Paradigm is going to accelerate out of the Y2K blues and dot.com telecosmic crash and WTC into the wild blue yonder. There has NOT been a financial collapse. Uncle Green$pan has done his bit excellently [maintaining the highest quality currency and financial stability]. The SEC and laws are working well. Cyberspace didn't blink [even the most damaged of all companies [in physical and human terms] - Cantor Fitzgerald continued operations from backup premises]. USS Enterprise and namesake are alive and well. There is still not even a confirmed recession, let alone depression, and unemployment is only around 5% [which on a 100 year graph doesn't show up as anything unusual and is on the low side of normal]. APEC has been on in Shanghai and as with East Timor, when Bill Clinton came to APEC in The Sheeples Republic of Aotearoa [Kiwiland], just when the attacks by Moslem murderers had happened and the democratic wish of East Timorese to separate from Indonesia was being denied, I expect that George W will be able to get the APEC leaders to offer support to civilization. Actually, in Clinton's case, he was dragged into it [doing something about East Timor], whereas this time, GeorgeW will be pushing for enforcement of civilization. Think back to when we lived under the threat of MAD [mutually assured destruction]. Now, the very worst I can imagine is a stolen nuke destroying a small part of one city. That's a lot less than most people in the world dead [the MAD scenario]. 2001 is nearly over [only two months to go]. We are nearly all still here and the technological revolution remains white hot. Now that the waste of wacko dot.com ideas is over and crazy bidding on telecosm stuff is being worked out of the system, the real work which counts will continue with re-employed internerds and photon manipulators making cyberspace hum. There's no anthrax in cyberspace and it can't be blown up. Even if ALL of Saudi oil was cut off, it would only make an economic dent. The world's economic dependence on oil has dwindled dramatically since 1974 and 1979 [the oil price quadruplings]. Let's ramp up the UN into a reconstituted international law enforcement body with teeth, gaols and jails and eradicate the human mutants. Optimistically, bordering on cocky. Mqurice
