This could get really ugly because once you start doing this to people who have never been found guilty of anything, where is the 'presumption of innocence'? My first reaction was that one could reasonably give "truth serum" to material witnesses under special circumstances (along the lines of "hot pursuit") as long as it was understood that that information gained could not be used against the person in court. Like I said, that was a first reaction. I'd be interested in hearing different ideas.

It's a very fine line we have to walk between civil liberties and prevention of loss of further lives. Personally, I would have very little problem with a "truth serum" if such a thing really exists. I couldn't condone physical torture, but things such as sleep deprivation I'm OK with if a few hours of lost sleep coupled with drugs could lead to information that would save lives. Naturally, we will need close scrutiny of the people doing these things to avoid excesses.

I believe we need to place these gentlemen's balls in a vise and squeeze until their eyes turn purple. I'd be happy to do it myself. They are not US citizens, they are not US nationals. They should not be accorded the same rights or considerations. And we need to stop being patsies or we are going to see nothing but increased and constant terrorism on our own shores. These people have no compunction re mass murdering thousands of American citizens. They are inconceivably ruthless. We are going to have to be ruthless in return. Sooner or later THEY will prove that WE have no choice. We are fools if we think we can play nice with them. Hopefully we won't be dead fools before we finally understand what's going on.
