Semi, Does this mean the rapid pace of change catches intel with trousers down at some sites that are out of phase with other sites?
Looks like versatility is indeed the tradeoff.
Bill

I didn't say versatility, I said Process Improvement. The First Stage of a Process is to get it working at the HVM site. Process Improvement is stage 2. And lemmie tell ya something, anyone who is harboring wishfull thinking, about intel stumbling again on Phase 1 or 2...... Don't bet on it.

It also not necessary to make the same fab the lead process transfer fab every time. Intel has several 0.18/0.13u capable fabs. Since Process Technologies have been averaging 18-24 months, that's plenty of time to convert a fab over, assuming a certain amount of equipment re-use.

Remember, it's not unusual for equipment Models to be re-used for several technologies. In some cases, it's as simple as reprogramming the recipes, and validating the monitors.
