Dan,

Maybe time to upgrade more than RAM :(

You might consider upgrading the operating system. I was very surprised at how much more efficient XP is at updating all the programs and windows I have running in a timely manner. I haven't been scientific about it and haven't checked resources, but here's a glaring example.

I have an alarm program that sounds at predetermined times. It can only be set to the minute, not seconds. In win98, it would sound between 20 to 35 seconds after the minute began. In XP, it sounds on the dot every time. I'm guessing the processor is free to respond to other events at all times, without queuing. Win98 was so busy keeping current with the real time streams and spreadsheets that calculate from the RT, that it needed to make time to sound the alarm.

Your memory questions are beyond my ability and experience. Maybe PW will chime in since you directed the message to her. She's been been a bit of a stranger lately though. :-(
