kaplan is pretty good. i'll put that one on my list, which is getting pretty damn long by now, just how i like it. -g-

btw, i've heard the saudi's have a real domestic budget problem w/oil < $20bbl. do you think opec is heading into a solidarity crisis trying to push it back up in spite of sagging demand? i also read recently that other members are ok at $17-18bbl.

The Robert Kaplan book is a must read on geo-politics. You may wish to top it off with the following:

Resource Wars: Michael Klare

Hubberts Peak: The Impending World Oil Shortage: Kenneth Deffeyes

The three books in tandem should apply a proper 2 by 4 upside the head of anyone who believes resources aren't critical. One comes away with two key conclusions: 1. Resources are going to be scarce. 2. Many are in the wrong places.
