RE:The sucking action occurred in 1989, years before Clinton showed up on the scene. I agree. Bush Sr. made big mistakes by not removing Sodam Insane and then reducing defense spending. Too many people thought we didn't have any real enemies left after the USSR crumbled. Clinton continued the downward spiral, but he didn't start it.

Bush Sr. Bush Sr. is doubly at fault for not dealing properly with Iraq when he had clobbered the Republican Guard to its knees. He turned his back on Iraq and allowed its military to rebuild itself, not to mention the Kurds Again your recollection shows it's gaps. We were able to free Kuwait with the help of a UN coalition. That coalition which included Arab nations set objectives for the actions. "Taking out" Hussein was not one of them. WE would have had to havce told the other Arab nations to F-off if ewe went against Hussein. That is what you are now advocating we should have done. Incredibly stupid.
