Today's reporters grew up and were trained during the Vietnam era of suspicion about the military, which they can only identify with an unpopular war; not during WWII where everyone supported the military in a popular war. It's evident, and the public is showing through posts like yours that we know the difference, even if the media doesn't. The media is flaunting its ignorance and injuring its own credibility. They also need an education about cause and effect, why this information could prove harmful. Obviously they can't figure it out themselves.

I'm reminded of a news conference that took place right after what I think was a first in major organ transplants -- maybe it was heart and lungs. One bright, aggressive reporter called out to the doctor, "What is the condition of the donor?"

The press at Rumsfeld's daily briefings have been a disgrace. Their ignorance and their selfish quest to obtain information are absolutely mind-blowing to me. Today, Rumsfeld was left literally speechless when a reporter asked why journalists couldn't accompany special operations as they parachute in to perform highly complex and delicate operations. Finally, Rumsfeld had to ask if he'd actually heard the question right-which he had. Also, I can't stand the self-righteousness of these reporters who keep harping on "the public's right to know" as they persist in asking for strategy and military information. Where was their selfless concern for our right to know when they filled our newspapers and television screens with endless stories about shark attacks, Gary Condit, Monica Lewinsky's spotted dress, and OJ's glove-instead of the real "news," namely, the infiltration of terrorist networks and the growing anti-American sentiment festering in other countries, all culminating in the missile attacks on the WTC and Pentagon. These reporters have only one priority, and that is their byline.
