If you want to look backwards it just depends on your time frame.

For the past 1 year, MSFT has STRONGLY outperfomed the S&P and the Nasdaq. Same results for the past 5 years.

Obvioulsy if you pick a time period that starts right at the peak in MSFT stock price, it may have underperformed the S&P.

Looking forwards is a lot more difficult. I admit to not knowing what the future holds. I suspect that MSFT will grow steadily. Can you find stocks that will outperform it? Absolutely. The indexes, maybe, but I'd guess that MSFT hangs with them, or slightly outperforms them. Everyone will have a different opinion on this subject. That's what makes a market.
