>>The background for this is that 2 very important religious festivals coincided in both Islam and Judaism, two festivals in which there was a prohibition against warfare.<<

Great research.

So now these hypocrites are calling for a Ramadan truce!!!!!

Hi Hawk....Isn’t it interesting that some of the Muslim world didn’t consider either Ramadan nor Yom Kippur important enough not to go to War in 1973…. Why would today be any different????

Or the Tet festival... etc, etc... Hey... it's smart to attack when your opponent least expects it. And the Yom Kippur war was the closest the Egyptians ever got to defeating the Israelis on the field of battle.

But hey... I'm sitting here watching South Asia news and they are stating that Musharraf wants the US bombing campaign to end over Ramadan...

Well, I say... Screw him.. The longer we wait, the more chance the Taliban (who they fostered) have to consolidate and recover. And Pakistan has EVERY interest in preserving some semblance of Taliban power and influence in Afghanistan since they are proxies for the Pakistanis.

That's why I believe we're caving in to Northern Alliance pressure to support their advance on Kabul. I believe we were delaying providing such support because we didn't want to be seen as favoring them over the Taliban and Southern tribes, and the Pakistanis have been placing pressure on us not to utterly destroy the Taliban.

But hey... this can't go on forever... We at risk of seeing support for this US operation completely dissipate over the coming months. The muslims are definitely winning the propaganda war there and our allies are probably getting a bit more nervous.

We have to bring this to an end.. even if it means the N. Alliance captures Kabul and holds interim power.

Then we can follow up with a UN effort. Personally, I don't care... I just want Bin Laden and his thugs. How the Afghanis manage their affairs afterward is their business. If they want to reject the UN or US, so be it.
