Hanan Ashrawi was never a moderate, just an intelligent spokeswoman for the PLO party line.

I disagree and have remarked often enough about my views that she is an index of just how bad things have gotten.

Hanan Ashrawi was never a moderate, just an intelligent spokeswoman for the PLO party line. Now she's spokeswoman for the hard-line Arab League. The only difference was that she knew how to phrase things to make them seem more acceptable to the West, how to hint of compromise. The substance was not really different.
