A policy ``rule,'' which would allow Fed officials to plug in economic variables and know what to do with interest rates, would be helpful, Greenspan said.

I was at least hoping that after this disaster AG would say something like "we should do whatever we can to leave interest rates alone and let the market work." Instead I heard him going on with the above statement and another one where he says they simply need to refine their model and add property appreciation into the figures.
