I don't know why the author says the Northwood wasn't compared to anything, there were Sandra benchmarks compared with a 2.0GHz Willamette and a Athlon 1.4GHz MP.

I know, it's like he doesn't know what was in the article.

Despite the 845 chipset it blew away everything else except for memory bandwidth where it sucked wind.

The memory bandwidth part kind of validates that it was the 845.

While these aren't exactly definitive benchmarks it does make you want to see the finished product.


Bring it on! If it's this good, it ought to put an end to the performance freaks jumping up and down every time one company leapfrogs the other and leave selection to the other important factors like:

Infrastructure support
Brand
Reliability
Compatibility
Volume capability to handle Dell, Compaq, etc. JIT needs
Overheat and burnup protection in chips
