I'd like to see more details of the plans for what follows --
There are two possible reasons you haven't seen them.

I'd still be a lot happier if I knew there were viable plans. Playing by ear may work... but diplomacy normally needs at least the plan for a melody.

"Let's abandon the Israelis to their gruesome fate."
No, let's not. Let's guarantee their safety inside the boundaries they were given. Arbitrary, maybe, but I think by now they'd be accepted. And there isn't really another answer.
And who is going to guarantee that?
The coalition the US has just assembled: under UN peacemaker auspices (NOT peace'keepers'... send in troops who can shoot back, or even first). Think China or Russia will really demur, now? Even the ME might have to agree.

If the rug is pulled from beneath most of the fanatics, those remaining will eventually dwindle. But while extremist Palestinians meet extremist - but better-armed - Zionists, on land which Israel hasn't 'owned' since before the Celts were in Britain, we'll still have problems.

you should turn in your American passport
LOL, I understand knee-jerk reactions to terrorism, the wish to annihilate your enemy and turn his entire race and religion into minuscule particles of radioactive dust... but then again, I'm British. We've had this for 30+ years.

I've reluctantly accepted that nuking the baby-bombing murderers and sterilising the entire island so that it never bears any more of their verminous breed to pollute this planet is - possibly - an over-reaction. We could, sure. But I think it wouldn't really be worthy of us, we're better than that.

You tell me. If GWB had his uncle, a couple of friends and his bodyguard (not to mention sundry policemen) blown up by the Taliban, would you feel it right to detonate a few megatons over Kabul? If the next bomb hit Camp David, and killed several staffers and Cheney's wife, how about then? If al-Quaida then began bmbing bars at random in army towns, and followed it with bombs outside Macy's and the Empire State Building, what then?
Before you say "Yes"... we've been through that. Would you *really* want to see Ireland as a glowing crater?
