I know the facts you refer to, my point was that we didn't do the killing in either case and he implied that we did.

Pinochet was vile but I think Allende may have been worse then many people think. I think its possible that Chile is a better place now for not having had Allende but that doesn't justify the death squads.

As for Sabra I don't know the exact details. For example I thought it was hundreds killed not thousands. One site I found on a quick search lists estimates from 460 to 800, but even the low end of that is horrible. The exact extent of Sharon's involvement is uncertain IMO but at a minimum he made it possible even if unwittingly, and he either is an idiot or he knew something bad might happen even if he didn't think it would be a major massacre. (and it is hardly uncertain that he didn't want a massacre) Sharon was dismissed and he should have been. Of course now he is running things there.

As far as I know the US government doesn't support him personally. We support Israel, but that isn't exactly the same thing.
