Hi Snowshoe; Great link. The part that makes my gonads shrink are these few lines: "Divers carefully retrieved the activated yet unexploded torpedo. The valuable dud was then hauled back to Pearl Harbor for examination. The technicians removed the contact mechanism and discovered that the device had correctly released the firing pin, but the pin had not struck the fulminate caps with sufficient force to set them off."

Having seen what a torpedo can do, I wouldn't want to be within a city block of a dud. I guess a dud grenade can kill you just as dead, but still...

The guy who skippered the Tang wrote a book about his WW2 experience and the boat and her fate. I read it, and that's why I looked up these facts.
