If you were in such a position, then why on earth would you maintain that Japan didn't knuckle to the pressure to have nukes in transit on ships and aircraft? Oh, it was in it's "best interests". That is a pretty low hurdle to evade puppetry. How do you measure that? We were in violation of their constitution.

I knew people on the "sh!tty kitty" and yes, they did have nukes. And they went to Japan. And, no, they didn't unload them.

Maybe the diplomatic corps can't confirm or deny, but I can assure you when sharing a beer with people at the NCO club, there was no such position of 'plausible deniability' was being maintained there.

My original position a couple of days ago was that we'd have a puppet government (to some degree) for about 20 years after a major conflict (e.g., Afghanistan). That sets the clock to 1965 plus or minus for a vanquished WWII power.

So, what are you trying to nit-pick? That the U.S. doesn't brandish its world dominance in a pretty heavy-handed way? Or that you expect this highly independent Afghani interim government is not going to be a puppet?
