As for giving you credit for intelligence, I can only judge you by the logic of your posts. I suppose you and others see this thread differently than I do. I would like to discuss political ideas. Many others seem to think it is a tit for tat situation.

Please don't stereotype everyone here in assuming that some don't wish to discuss political ideas. Wading through messages of petty infighting eventually drives anyone away that doesn't indulge in name calling or typecasting.

I have thought that there might be a thread at SI where political ideas are discussed in civil tones, but I haven't found it yet.

After spending hours reading the thousands of posts here, I have come to the conclusion that this thread is extremely bogged down. There are certain posters here that keep disputes in the forefront and thrive on chaos. The same words are spoken over and over again leading to stalemates and illusions over where conversations could lead. I have seen the entire thread become a coalition of warriors battling it out to see who wins the prize for the most clever epithet. I think they actually go to bed satisfied that today they have won the war.

I believe that the thread has been defined by these individuals and that is the way they wish it to be. It is a very interesting study of human nature, particularly as it relates to Americans. Since that day, the divisions have not really changed in any great respect. It pretty much operates the way it always has. I think that the thread should be renamed.

I think it should be called the BUSH VS CLINTON thread,or the NO OTHER PRESIDENT WILL EVER LIVE UP TO WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON thread, because that is, for the most part, all that is ever discussed here. It isn't just the PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH thread, it is a meeting place of those that would love to have Clinton back and those that could not think of anything worse.

In any event it is interesting to read.

M

Joe, I was not criticizing the effort so far, ie bombing Afghanistan, I only made an observation that so far it seems we have minimal if any results. I would love to see Bush be a great President, but as I said I am disappointed in most efforts so far other than managing the response to the attacks. And I like you wish to discuss politics not throw darts, but most here throw only darts and usually they are aimed at the personal flaws of a past President. For example, I was informed today that Clinton made a major mistake by cutting taxes in 99. This person obviously doesn't realize that we now have a deficit spending environment
