no - San Anselmo is refered to as the hub city and actually has an interesection called "the hub" which is very close to san rafael:

google.yahoo.com

a few weeks ago i was showing my wife around Marin and we began at Mission San Rafael and then went down to the Starbucks on 4th street. much has changed since i lived in marin so i asked the server at Starbucks where to i should take my wife to really give her a taste of Marin...he said: "San Anslemo." of course, we were headed in that direction anyway :) when we drove down San Anselmo Ave i noticed that the police station and library in the center of town looked the same as it did 40 years ago.

i spoke at length with the owner of a local convenience store and asked him how it could be that property prices could be so high. he was the one who told me to "look around" he said "see if you can find any for sale signs -- nobody wants to move." i drove all through the town and think maybe i saw one. the local census page i refered to earlier says that there are only 9 homes for sale in the town.

i have lived in many parts of california -- and imo there is no better place than Marin County and San Anselmo - Ross - and Kentfield are the cream of the crop. of course, i love the wine country too, im simply partial to marin.

ps --- as for so. calif --- San Diego is the place -- hands down.
