SR: Hardly know how to respond, although a response seems necessary. Many here have followed and enjoyed your posts for a long time. I actually have copies of some of your old postings! I hope and pray that your life turns for the better soon. Everyone has it within their power to say,"This I am today; that I will be tomorrow." God Bless You and your family!

Hi Kevin, I agree with Bocor.

I completely understand how accumulating setbacks can take their toll. Let me pass on two thoughts. I'm sure others will pass on theirs'.

First, your posts and presence on SI is appreciated and enjoyed. You have plenty of stock pals on SI. To successfully convey your thoughts and personality on a text bulletin board is an accomplishment you shouldn't underestimate. It means your thoughts and personality would be appreciated EVEN MORE in real life. The challenge is to find the people worthy of you. They are out there, even though they may be hard to find. You found them online -- you'll find them in real life. Don't stop looking for them -- they are out there somewhere.

Second, let me tell you from experience that success and solutions are sometimes just around the corner and out of sight. The important thing is not to do anything that prevents them from happening !!!!!!!!

Without knowing you're full situation, my general advice is to concentrate your energy, efforts, and interests in just a few areas. Get them under control and branch out to other areas after that.

Although trading stocks can be fun, it can also be very frustrating and distracting from your main goals in life. If you have a skill like software/web development, then I think you should look for part time work to augment you day job salary. Or volunteer your skills to a non-profit organization desperate for them and would really appreciate your skills and YOU !

For example, I volunteered my computer skills for 8 years at a nearby elementary school. I was almost never there during school hours because of my day job, but the teachers were sooooo appreciative and always told me how much they wished I could see the kids using the network and software I put together.

Chris

Kevin, 'this too shall pass.' You are a survivor. You will find a way. My father was such a person. When he had a massive brain stem stoke and all thought he would die, he fought back. When he developed a rare eye melanoma (cancer) he fought back. Through years of jobs/no jobs/transiency, he continued the good fight. He finally passed away this summer at 84 (a final bout with cancer). He was at home (he lived with me) surrounded by all of his children. For someone who is a born fighter, the critical thing is to decide to go on. If you need help researching a stock (or something on the else) on the internet, post it on SI. We can help (assuming of course that our own cable modem is up and running!) research the info and post it for you. You have touched many here on SI. You are not alone. cb

You need a girlfreind...with money. Sheesh, I gotta tell you everything.

Build some websites for small business owners on the side too.

Psst, don't be picky about the way the girl looks...make sure she has money.

Has it occurred to you to get ahold of Tom Ridge and see if there is anything you can do to help fight this terrorism? Perhaps there is a job opening there that you might find worthy. I'm being serious. If I were in your shoes, these things are exactly what I would be doing.

SirRealist
I just recently added this thread to my bookmarks, but I have enjoyed your post's. I am much more of a lurker trying to get things set up for full time trading. But anyway I can relate to many of the things you have mentioned in your heartfelt note. My family recently moved to Ireland etc. etc. I live in the Portland area, why don't you PM me and I'll give my phone number.

Cordially,

B.Long

You had enough courage to write that rather sincere post, which implies to me that you have much strength and determination left in you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and start over. Others have successfully started over with much less and you can too. Keep us posted and let me know how I can be of help.

Signed,

A follower of yours over the years,
Nicholas

Take a stroll through a Pediatric Cancer ward
and consider yourself lucky to be alive.

Then, find a girlfriend. It isn't about
money or a great trade.

I feel for you, but life is not defined by
your last swing trade.

What can I add to what others have said? No much. Am mostly a lurker, but it's clear to me, from reading SI for 2 years, that you have a lot of friends here. I hope you are able to hold on and accept as likely that "this too shall pass". Take care. -- Exedous

Hang in there Kevin. You have wit, brains and I am sure lots of other abilities.

I cannot give you any advice other than give you whatever support this post may give you. I just know not to give up. Your time in the sun will come back soon. Take one day at the time and find a way to have access to the tools you need to day trade, and then take it from there.

There must be a way, even if you need to change jobs from the one you described. Don't give up, never, never surrender.

I for one have appreciated your writings.

Kevin You are a very bright person with excellent writing skills besides being a good person. Please don't do anything drastic, and I wish You the best luck possible. You can get a computer down here with 0% financing for at least 6 months to a year, so maybe You can get a new computer and not have to pay until then.

Kevin, that was a very compelling post. Let me give you some guidance. CLOSE the trading account. I assume you have over 25,000 since that is the minimum to daytrade. Take that money and hold it tight. Go outside while the weather is beautiful in Oregon and get some fresh air. Get in touch with yourself by going back to basics. Portland OR is not the cheapest place to live but since you have family near it might be the best place for you. Bad business partner, moving cross country can really take a toll on one self. You have been the most honest and sincere poster on SI, you can't buy those qualities anywhere. I have a well connected friend in Lake Oswego. If you need my assistance please PM me.

Please don’t despair. You have every wish, hope, and desire to live for. I hope this poem by Robert Frost offers some encouragement.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it's queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there's some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
