You can certainly believe that line if you wish. I believe as I stated that our bombing of Japan saved american lives.

Revisionist arguments sometimes are right. I have always found equal evidence on both sides of this one. Regardless of the argument i believe Truman made the decision with the best interest of our servicmen at heart.
You may be right that the japanese were ready to surrender but certainly not unconditionally and after the "terrorism" they used against us and their fellow asians, especially the chinese, the retention in power of the emperor and the ruling class would have been unacceptable to the world. The good news is that democracy followed the nuclear strike, not terrorists so one doesnt have much to do with the other. Perhaps it is the lack of a strong response that leads to further terror? Mike
