many Palestinians consider us to be their enemy because of our support for Israel Certainly true. And one reason for the problems in the ME now being so bad, IMO, is that the old USSR encouraged any and every enemy of Israel, or of states who might be pro-US, for just that reason. This admin seems less pro-Israel than most. But it still supplies them with vast military resources and financial aid - without requiring nearly enough in return. If the US had the courage, it could really strengthen its hand in the ME at a stroke: just say to Sharon "No more aid until you pull your armed forces out of the WB and Gaza, and stop building and arming settlements there." Think Sharon would say no - and lose most of his budget? I don't. And Israel's done an excellent job recently of offending or disgusting pretty well everyone else who might have helped.
