stan - yeah, I am pedaling back from the cons[racy theory and also would prefer mining to physical.
Then prefer North-American miners to others (as an eventual decline in the Dollar would smoothly be hedged with a rise in gold price, hence price of the equity).
Then mining cos. which are no pure plays: fine if they would include platinum and silver. Not if they include copper or other commoditized metals.
Last, unhedged cos. (you never know if they are properly hedged).

Lost my link to the real (Canadian) expert on mines and still trying to retrive his name.
In any case, I am close to step in for an exposure in precious metals. In a 2-10 years perspective, this appears to be one move to do.
And keep that fre@kin' balance in cash until I figure out what to do next.
