The US is interested in the oil and gas in Afghanistan and the Caspian Sea area!

Getting a firm foothold in this area and acquiring its oil and gas mean a lot to the US politically and economically. So, even though there are sources of oil and gas closer to home, the US will feel compelled to make its presence felt in the area. The war campaign in Afghanistan provides, incidentally, a good excuse for the US to be involved in the area.

Will Afghanistan become a quasi-colony of the US in the foreseeable future?

PS. Surely, it is better to use the oil from elsewhere first and meantime keep the oil in one's backyard as a reserve.
