Nixon resigned after Goldwater, Dole and the right wing of the GOP told him the gig was up. Ford's pardon then guaranteed that Tricky Dicky would never be prosecuted for his high crimes. The deal likely was worked out behind closed doors to ensure there would be no impeachment trial. Too bad that Hyde, DeLay et al weren't as considerate of the collective American psyche as Ford et al were a quarter century ago. Using "honor" and "Tricky Dicky" in the same sentence, as you did, is an oxymoron.
