I have read of some disheartening tendencies among college students, mainly black- white, to stake out separate territories in the common areas, like cafeterias. Some people have suggested that there was more social integration before the push to "race norm" college applications. On the other hand, the courts have been whittling away at the ability of schools to use race (as opposed to need) as a criterion. It can be a weak factor, but not a strong factor. This means that the academic tensions created by favoritism will be reduced.
