So you recommend surrendering to terrorism? Shall we shut down LaGuardia, and San Diego and San Francisco and LAX, and both Chicago airports as well all of these airports have the same problem as National as does Dulles Airport, should it be shut down also, and the subway system in DC as well. And wreck the local economies all over the Country your solution is in effect surrendering to terrorism. Freedom has a price and America is brave enough to pay the price despite the likes of you

I think the issue of Reagan National is irrelevant. A terrorist could just as easily rent, buy or steal a private jet, load it full of bomb material. File a flight plan from Richmond to Philly and while at flight level 31 near Washington, execute a nice little suicide dive into any Washington target he wanted. There would be absolutely the same reaction time as an approaching flight to RNA, NONE. Even a controlled (relatively) descent of 5000 FPM you only have 4 + minutes to react if you figured it out immediately.

An analysis of the process failures that led to the 9/11 attacks and current changes implemented show to me virtually zero danger to WH or Capitol. Whatever level you come up with, if you apply that to other just as valuable targets then I don't think there is an airport that could be kept open.

But I see no danger of a directed hi-jacked plane being guided to a specific Washington DC target.
