Tony, Intel has quantity and AMD has quality.
Intel is snakebit and doomed to die.

Tony, Re: <Isn't it about the most flipped out thing you've ever seen? Or maybe it's me, but from where I sit INTCs getting ready to suicide by end of lifing the P-III lines(Yeah, I know, they're really just renaming it Celeron) and pushing the PIV and IA-64.

Like lemmings to the cliff.

I just put up a post a little earlier saying that P4 sales quadrupled in Q3, from Q2, and you go and post something like that. Ever think that that's kind of like "asking for it"?>

I responded to the 4X PIV Q/Q post saying it sounded reasonable, and that during the cc it was stated that X-Over between PIV and P-III occurred after Q3 closed. And I thanked you for the post. And Athole pronged me for it and I ignored him.

Now I'm pretty sure something I posted upset you. I doubt it's the part about renaming the P-III to Celeron. So it has to be the part about pushing the PIV and IA-64.

You happen to believe in the PIV, I don't.(But I do think Intel's going to sell a lot of them, just not as many as they would if they maintained some P-III production.)

And here comes Wanna to say that as soon as the world recompiles everything to maximize PIV performance everything will be OK.

And when I say 'Like lemmings to the cliff' I'm talking about Intel, IN MY OPINION. It doesn't mean they're going to fail, just that I think they will. And that's not an absolute failure but a relative failure. It *MIGHT* cost intel 4% market share in the next 6 months. We're not talking about death of a company here!

I could be wrong. But I think they made a bad decision and are sticking to it incorrectly.

As I see it, Intel is counting on IA-64 to take care of the server market. It isn't going to happen, IMO, for at least a year. That leaves the PIVs to handle it. I don't see that either. Most things the PIII can't stick with the Athlon line, but for some things it's a much more reasonable pick than the PIV(IMO). Intel's going to be running the lines(for X-box) & I think it's reasonable to sell the CPU.

We'll find out how it all plays out.

And don't take it personal, there's only two people I want off this thread permanently, and you aren't one of them. And I'm not one of the AMDers who comes over to disrupt the INTC thread, and I wish the ones who do would cut it out.
