For a new CLEC you might want to try DirecTV DSL. directvdsl.com As I understand it DirecTV DSL is basically a marketing agent for the baby bells ( here it's SBC/PacBell and use all Bell gear except the modeum.

I was forced to switch from Rhythms bankruptcy last month and within 3 weeks was up and running without a hitch. Cost went from $169/month on a 1 year contract to $49.95/mo on a month to month. Speed went from 384 kbs down & up loading to 1500 kbs down and 128 kbs uploading. This is a better deal then dealing directly with PacBell as they want a 1 year contract and a few bucks installation fee. The times I've called DirecTV DSL technical support to get set up they were excellent.

As you may know Northpoint was first to bite the dust, then Rhythms and Covad appears to be next.

Hope this helps.

Mac

Chuck, it's Choice One Communications. I'm thinking of switching to MCI, as they're the only one who besides SBC who does all the bundled services in our area. Ironic that when Choice One fails, I'm left with little choice.
