Hi, Frank,

One of the little tech companies that I own, KVH Industries, made two major announcements today.

1) Exclusive rights to market high-speed DirecPC(R) broadband Internet service for mobile customers in the US.
2) Mobile Internet Server

400Kbps 2-way satellite Internet access (plus TV) to anywhere in the US, WHILE MOVING, including up to 100 miles off the coasts! The initial version is targeted at the Marine market, but within 3 months they will also have a low profile (under 3" high) antenna for RVs, Vans and automobiles, and this capability will be included.

The announcement includes 802.11b wireless as well, so mobile vehicles and vessels become wireless LANs so Laptops and other wireless devices will work within a 300' - 1000' radius of the moving vehicle or vessel. This seems pretty powerful. I wanted to see what you and others here think about the technology.

That's an interesting slant. The building wouldn't have to maintain a clli code if the building was only maintained by a single network provider other than the RBOC. Why bother with the CLLI registration when the building owner could call it anything they want...for example, building #1.

The greater problem with that model is the legacy ciruits would need the clli information to be present.

Getting CLLI information is either expensive or takes long. I think I remember the Clones database selling for something in the high hundred thousands plus a look up fee. The alternative is a one by one clli code look up which takes something like a week to get the results back and still costs a couple bucks per building.
