"so what you're insinuating is that anyone who doesn't agree with left wing political philosophy lacks the education" -- I'm not insinuating that. I'd say most liberal educated folk, of my generation, are generally a bit right of center. They hold some liberal views and some rightist views. Look it, if you study history and history's greatest minds, you'll come away with a few liberal ideas. What's wrong with equality rights for all people. What's wrong with helping the downtrodden. Much of what makes United States so great is free thinking, an openess to new ideas. Leaps in science and technology came from people with liberal backgrounds, the whole of the entertainment industry is made up of liberal thinkers. Name any 10 CEO's of major firms and I'll bet behind them writing their speeches and giving them advice are people with Liberal backgrounds, even though they may not hold many of the tenets of left wing thought as they did when they were younger.

The value of a liberal arts education for critical thinking is summed up in E. T.'s proclamation that " honor mean dick and it all about who has the biggest stick." Those are E.T.'s words and express the framework of it's critical thinking.

To me I see many issues that involve planing for the future require an understanding of physics, chemistry, biology. To me if a person does not understand completely the absorption spectrum of CO2 H20 and other gases in the atmosphere then one's critical thinking about the global warming will be as valuable as a ground hog that was just run over by a ten wheeler. If you don't have a clue about the basic science then all you hear from every expert is just some words with no context. is wis biz fizz. How does on think critically.
