Jim,
I learned my lesson last time.
I watch the 200 day and 50 day moving average. If I am not confident that the ^RMS is trading above both of these, then I want to be very, very short term. I really have lost interest in my rapid trading style, though I was up 20% through the end of August despite being 15-20% in high tech. Some quality REITs are at very attractive prices, and the ^RMS may hit a short term double bottom at 369 or so, but I am not interested in any sectors except maybe healthcare and self-storage. Not many of these are at attractive prices yet. For the long term investor, EQR, EOP and BXP are among the quality REITs that slowly building a position is worth looking at. It's unlikely any of these will drop more than 8-10% from here without major chaos to real estate values being the rule.
Richard

p.s. PPS with a nearly 10% dividend is getting interesting.
