The discussion will never be closed. As long as there is doubt and passion there will be controversy. The Nazis were not nice. Their war in the Ukraine was a botched bloody affair. Stupid and surpassing brutal. More so than even Stalin, although former officers on the Eastern Front used to tell me that they were "shocked" by Stalin's methods. However there are many troubling questions with just what the not nice Nazis did and when and where and how. It helps to know the truth. When you realize that the only so called credible evidence of gassings was a dictated confession in English, beaten out of Rudolph Hoess, the Auschwitz commandant, by three British Intelligence officers in 1946, we are back to severe doubt. Even the orchestrated Nuremberg trials, not a shining example of judicial objectivity sunk to even lower depths in the ultra brief "cross examination" of Hoess when he was in defense of an accused. (now we can guess why they never tried him at Nuremberg. They feared to put him on the stand in his own defense.) It amounted to "Did you sign this phony document written in English, under torture, knowing you were going to die anway?" and Hoess saying to the court, "Sure, anything you say." Sounds like absolute confirmation to me. (ok, the counsel did not say "phony document written in English" and Hoess said "Jawhol" five times, not "yah sure".) Then they send him to Poland to be further tortured, to reveal his torture at the hands of the British, and write his "true life confessions" under Polish supervision! Of course it's the truth! Then they quickly hang him before he recants. The sad, sad, part of this is that British Intelligence knows the truth about how many died at Auschwitz what race they were and how they were killed. They decrypted it all from the Ultra signals interception and decoding of the transmissions of the high ranking German officers. Since these publishments of the code transcripts in the mid 1970's it can be seen that the British knew that the causes of death were natural for the most part, far lower than any historian had til then projected or Hoess' "confession" states, and that gassing, at least on a large scale or in any predetermined factory operation, never took place. On that we end. It has been determined. Nobody or very few got gassed. There were killings to be sure. But it was not factory genocide. That is overstatement and it is a matter of historical record.
