Michigan GOP Gov. Engler had a major fit of angst after the election over the day off work (paid) given to the UAW members. I think he called it the largest unregulated campaign contribution in the election. Hard to disagree with him.

If you look at the states that Gore lost, two stand out: (1) Tennessee. (2) Ohio. The Ohio vote was closer than most anticipated. I believe had Gore campaigned harder there, and rallied the unions and the traditional Democratic bases, he could have won the state. If he had won Ohio, Florida would have been immaterial.

The amount of money donated to Republicans vs. Democrats doesn't bother me that much. I think campaign ads are having less and less effect on voters every year.
