Then don't act like they are doing it.

"What I object to is the company constantly trying to squeeze the employees with insurance surcharges, end runs to get their greedy hands on the pension overfunding, etc., while the fat cats at the top continue to draw 6-figure bonuses, even in "down" years"

It is obvious that you hate management and your company. Why do you work for them? And how can you expect anything to be good between management and labor with such a bad attitude? Do you at least acknowledge that they are good enough at what they do to provide for you and to keep your co-workers employed? This hate the management attitude is one of the reasons that I don't like unions. It is the same tactic the dem party uses against succesful Americans, and it is not only mean spirited, it is a terrible strategy.

Good companies value their employees, and good employees can work where they want. Pretty simple.
