Look, I am a government employee. Through the auspices of the executive branch of government, you employed me to manage your forests for your benefit. I simply work hard for my salary and that's the only financial interest I have in it. Clinton trashed my moral and professional interest in forest management, but as a government employee I have a certain amount of security which I trade for pay that does not compare to that of the private sector for similar work.

This might be a little obscure for most people, but until Clinton I worked for the only government bureau that had a Civil Service Chief. We were very proud of this, even though our sister agencies with politically appointed chiefs generally graded people at least one or two levels higher for the same work we do. For people like me it meant that we could pursue our mission without having it subject to political tides. That went out the window under Clinton, but fortunately the Bush administration selected a fine Chief for us and we are on the mend.

If you and I could tour the area where I practiced forestry, I would show you some fine habitat in areas that I prescribed for. I never prescribed a treatment without making provisions for wildlife habitat.
