The introduction of a nasty bug into some foodstuff that isn't normally cooked by the consumer would certainly cause some considerable degree of panic.

Earlier reports were that the anthrax was the Ames strain, which was first isolated in the US but then sent to labs all over the world. I'm guessing that a DNA analysis is going to reveal which actual lab it came from - I'm hoping (without knowing) that there's been some amount of genetic drift that could serve to differentiate one Ames strain from another.
