Decade or so?? You started in '93 you said... come back in 2003 and let us know, my guess you'll be about even then, and lagging t-bills badly.

OK, I'll guess. Not well.

You have identified yourself as a dollar-cost-averaging, long-term buy-and-hold investor since 1993.

Lets say every December 31, starting in 1992, you invested $10,000 in the S&P 500. Lets say over the same time period I invested $10,000 in the 10-year zero.

By my math, your $90,000 total investment is now worth $139,686. My $90,000 total investment is now worth $135,575.

Of course, your ACTUAL experience includes moving some of your money into the Naz 3000+ points ago (and thus performing worse than my S&P example above), but I won't even go there.

The point is is that over the last 8 years as a DCA-ing LTB&Holder you have not done any better than the closest equivalent risk-free asset.
