Some news have got to be relevant here. The drop of durable orders this morning was spectacular and unexpected. There are persistent anecdotal reports that housing prices have dropped more than 10% in the last few weeks -- this wipes out the equity of most recent house buyers. And unemployment keeps rising. What if the rest of the economy performs a sudden swoon much like tech did last winter?

10:02 ET Economic Data : Existing Home Sales fell 11.7% to a 4.89 mln unit rate in September, weaker than the 5.20 mln consensus; a decline had been expected after a surprisingly strong August number, though the actual decline was nevertheless larger than anticipated.
