I don't think I've heard what Canada's done.

But the new US laws are scary enough. The article linked(unfortunately the full original is now, mysteriously, removed) says it well...

Of course, everyone here trusts the authorities, don't they? We know that no official, whether in the police, the FBI, the NSA or some even more secret and unsupervised acronym would ever abuse his position and the powers thereof... never has happened, never will... sure.

They're welcome to monitor anything and everything we do, just in case they might have a suspicion that we're connected to something which might harm the state, or opposed to something that this official body has deemed in its interest, or taking too much notice of something this official body wants to do without any notice.

And we're willing to trust them, because they're our beloved older siblings, and they tell us so... :-(
