Wanna_bmw, Re: IIRC, Intel only mentions market share when asked by the analysts.

That's from Otellini's opening remarks on the Q3 CC:

jc-news.com

Last quarter on this call I described a major roadmap acceleration around our Pentium 4 microprocessor family. I will go into more detail later, but the results of that program have been very successfull, generating solid unit growth in microprocessor shipments, enabling us to gain a couple of points of market segment share this past quarter.

He made similar comments during his opening remarks on the previous CCs I remember (e.g. from Q2's opening remarks: "In the hyper-competitive US Retail market, Intel based PCs gained share in Q2, exiting the quarter with well over 80% market segment share."). The always held 80% market share in all these quarters -- despite AMD having >20% and VIA a few additional percents.

You and Albert (no, I didn't "Yu, Albert";P ) are looking at the same thing from different perspectives. When asked, Intel people (like Barrett) have stated "we will regain market segment share".

Depending on your point of view, this may or may not be construed as a publically stated goal.
