Win, I'm pretty sure that McKinley and Madison will be here sooner. ;-)

Win, look at the slides closely. You will see that EV7 seems to match McKinley's release as well (even though the two are supposed to launch at the same time. Interestingly, both processors are offered at similar clock speeds (and 1.2GHz for McKinley is faster than the 1GHz McKinley that Intel had mentioned). Compaq see's the largest transitional period between Alpha and Itanium architecture starting in late 2004, and lasting until 2007. McKinley is obviously not going to be the catalyst for that, but it doesn't mean the CPU itself is at all delayed. Compaq's plans don't match Intel's launch plans, but they seem to be aligned in a very realistic way. It might sound like good news to you guys that Compaq doesn't see Itanium being a worthy product until 2004, but at least I don't see any Hammer chips on these roadmaps.

At least given these slides, I am a lot more confident about Compaq's future. They aren't depending on Itanium 100% in the beginning to take over their sales, but they are preparing quite a lot of infrastructure, including some very high end OS support and interconnect / storage support for the major transition in 2004.

Re: "Mike's got these official looking (but apparently from Compaq) slides at theinquirer.net , showing McKinley in 2003, Madison in 2004. "

Uh oh...looks like Compaq left NO ROOM for the Hamsters !
