So, you are an expert on how fast stocks should move off a terrorist attack bottom?!

Very dangerous to short tech this time of year. I think AMAT will take out resistance at 40 pretty easily.

"I'm thinking either a Subaru or a Toyota."

After the description of Lady Jacob's commute, i would vote Dogsled. <g> mike@hubris/cary.com

Anyone has any advise on whose SUV will do better, on ice on a steep slope, around a hairpin turn (her morning commute)?

Forget all SUV's which have a high center of gravity and thus subject to rollover...especially with no shoulders and deep ditches. Look at Audi's 4WD sedans which routinely win European winter rallies. If I were forced to buy an SUV (which I've personally vowed to never do in my lifetime), I would look at the BMW which has the best crash test results.

Check out the Alcan5000 rally results...in your backyard..."This 14th Alcan Rally started near Seattle Friday February 11, and finished in Anchorage Saturday February 19. Overnight stops included Quesnel, BC; Whitehorse, Yukon; and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska."

RE: ST - Trading Jacob, Yeah, Ya warned me fair and square and I'm feeling the sting (for the moment). I'm going to play it out however...

I now stand:

2000 shares short AMAT averaged at $35.80
Paper loss based on $37.43 close -$3,260 (-4.6%)

1000 shares short LRCX averaged at $20.80
Paper loss based on $21.04 close -$240 (-1.2%)

Combined play: -$3,500 (-3.8%)

If AMAT breaks above $39 I may press it one more time. I won't press the LRCX. I'll probably have to take the hit(s) if AMAT moves above $40 or LAM moves above $23. This could get ugly.

OT - SUV

It sounds like you and your wife are in one of the VERY few situations I would actually suggest a HMMWV. Having driven and ridden them through similar conditions, I think one might be your best bet. However, you'll compromise some other things along the way - comfort, mileage, and maintenance costs - for the epitome of traction.

I watched one in 4W-Low swim (no other word) up a muddy hill whose top foot was nearly liquid mud. The wheels were all spraying roostertails, but it made it.

(edit) The high clearance and low CG help, too. I never saw one roll.
