Hi Nikita,

I am sorry Nikita, but I have to disagree with the notion that colonialism was a good thing for any of the colonialized countries.

Yes. I do grant you that it did lead to some benefits for the colonialized countries, but that in no way can undo the problems that it created. I am a very avid reader of the history of south Asia and can tell you that there is no way that one can claim that countries like India, Pakistan etc. would have been worse off if it were not for colonialism.

Colonialism is the sapping of the resources of one country to feed another. That it self should tell one that there is something wrong here. Purely on an economic level, the colonial power drained the resources of the occupied countries. If one studies history well, one would know of the gold, diamonds etc. and money in terms of heavy taxes that were taken away from the occupied countries. I am not even going to start on things like the opium trade that was forced on some counties by there colonial powers....And signs like " Dogs and Indians not allowed"....

But that was a different time. Even America was a different county....with no voting for women and colored people.
We have come a long way from then and so has the world.

No colonialism was not a good thing. It created tremendous disparities in the world.
But lets not think of the past...but look at the present and see how we can improve the future.

Terrorism in any form can not be justified. We have to believe that we have matured enough to now ensure that any violent act on any innocent people is not acceptable. Here a distinction must be made between acts directed towards innocent people and acts that accidentally resulted in innocent lives being lost (like the collateral damage)

I am all behind the US, because the US is not actively targeting innocent people. This makes me proud of the US. We can now hold the higher moral ground and claim that we are indeed better than those terrorists and their supporters.

-Raj
