I think they can be profitable earlier then that if the economy improves, just not like they were in 2000. In order to become profitable, they need to consolidate their efforts, and stop the silly notion that market share is that much more important than margins, that they can take huge losses on every sale. HP used to take losses on printers, but they had good margins on ink and paper. Sony still takes a loss on the Playstation 2, but they make it up in solid video game licenses. AMD doesn't have flash to back them up right now, so losing money on processors, even to get more market share, is a bad business decision.
