I wouldn't request the torture of the wrong person either. My hypothetical was, "if the enemy captured your kid, and we captured someone who knew his location but wouldn't tell."

As I said, if my inaction on this lead to his death, I would not deserve to live.

Also, I wouldn't call it "inhuman barbarity", as that is a very judgmental term. The old saying that drastic times require drastic measures would rule the day.
