Terry >I expected it to happen. .... Of course no one believed me. Oh well. Sometimes you are right, and sometimes you are wrong.<

Most people don't think. They operate from a kind of collective madness derived usually from indoctrination. They will do whatever is popular to do. Whatever is popular is always right and, of course, good. Everyone wants to be good. So they do what they are told. If you're a loner, you're crazy. No-one wants to be associated with a crazy. If you think your own thoughts you're mad. No-one wants anything to do with a madman.

As far as investments are concerned doing the popular thing is the surest way to lose everything. The worst, of course, is following the advice of a stockbroker. Many years ago I worked out for myself that the only way one has a ghost of a chance in the market is if one thinks and thinks quietly, says nothing to anyone, listens to nothing anyone says, and acts quietly. And do plenty of homework. In fact, one has to be as furtive as if one is having an affair with one's wife's best friend!!

Investing is an extremely private matter. It is certainly not occupational therapy because one is bored or a subject for discussion because one likes blabbing.

I don't mind talking about gold investments on the forum because nothing I say or hear here will influence what I do. In SA, I talk to no-one about investing and, most definitely, I don't want to hear what anyone here has to say. For what it's worth, I frequently watch CNBC --- but with the audio turned off!! I just watch to SEE the charts and the prices.
